Pike PDF Print E-mail

The pike has an elongated body with round scales, a typically prominent and flattened snout, and a wide mouth with numerous teeth. Its back is a green-brown colour, its sides are mottled, striped and mimetic, its belly is yellowish-white and its fins are yellowish with black marks. Its average length is 40-50 cm and it can reach 120 cm. Its average weight is 600 g but it can also reach 7-8 kg. It has fine quality, white flesh, which is firm but delicate.

The best season for fishing is winter.

Fishing techniques include: gill nets (nets made up of three overlapping pieces), simple wide-mesh nets, long lines (these are used with several hooks simultaneously and consist of a main tube called a beam, extending for several kilometres), tofo, bertovello (a cone-shaped net supported by a series of wooden, iron or plastic rings) and throwing rods with live bait with undulating or rotating spoons.
