Embroidery and lace are from time immemorial passion of all women who love to decorate with style your own home, without
consider the high value, in the fashion of the past, would incorporate the female wardrobe. In Umbria, it ranges from lace of fine workmanship, to noble embroidery sophisticated colors and textures from the rustic but modern, such as those of Montefalco.
Since the Middle Ages, in the green heart of Italy, is handed a living tradition of embroidery, with anecdotes dating back even to prominent people, such as, for example, Santa Chiara, Assisi for the point or Catherine de 'Medici, which led to his court and then in France the point Madama, embroiderers learned from Umbria.
Few people know this, but the town of Deruta, known to the world for its fabulous ceramics, in turn, has given rise to two types of embroidery, the first, called "Old Deruta" dating from the thirteenth century, while the second "Deruta Modern ", dating from the twentieth century, reproduces on canvas the beautiful decorations of skilled potters.
It is thought that the filet in modano is a native of San Feliciano, lakeside village of the municipality of Magione, produced thanks to the skills developed by the mending of fishing nets, local main economic resource of the past. Famous, always in the Trasimeno area, lace Ireland, which provides a high-quality workmanship or crocheted, and the Ars Panicalensis embroidery on tulle.
Noteworthy are also the textures manual still taking place in Perugia - famous in medieval times for tablecloths called "Perugia", used as altar cloths in churches, representatives zoomorphic and geometric figures in turquoise, red and brown - and in 'Upper Valley (not only tablecloths but also tapestries and carpets), as well as tablecloths and lace area of ​​Orvieto.
